The numbers tell the story: In 2022, The Sharon at SouthPark offered 11,000 planned activities, helping keep residents mentally alert, intellectually challenged and motivated to learn more. Here’s another impressive number. Seventy-five percent of residents participated in at least one activity and most participated in many more.
All residents get free membership to One Day University. It’s our way of encouraging attendance at various programs, classes and talks by outside speakers. Want to learn how to write your memoir? Learn a new language? Learn to paint and craft? Listen to an expert share fresh insights on a current event? Study the Bible? Join a book club or spiritual conversation group? All you have to do is keep an eye on The Sharon at SouthPark’s calendar of upcoming activities.
The richness of Charlotte is seen in its museums and cultural offerings. Hop on The Sharon at SouthPark’s bus and enjoy it all with friends and neighbors.
Opportunities to explore the world are available through trips to such destinations as New Orleans, San Antonio and the latest, Ireland.
Nisbet Library, a few steps from our front door, is packed with books, magazines and newspapers. Come for quiet time, enjoy the best in literature and check out something to take home. The Silver Star program encourages residents to leave a review of something they’ve just read, to help guide the next reader.
Stretching minds is important. A culture of thoughtful curiosity enriches our community. Many of us pore over a crossword puzzle or word game. Neighbors gather in common areas to talk about the day’s news. Regular wine tastings offer the opportunity to learn about what you are sipping over a lovely meal.
The International Council on Active Aging describes the pursuit of stretching minds this way: “Strengthening your mental abilities through learning new things and providing outlets to be creative.”
