The Wallace Deall at The Sharon at SouthPark

The Wallace Dell at The Sharon at SouthPark has been recognized as the Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest for 2024 by the City of Charlotte as part of their Crown Tree Awards. This prestigious honor celebrates our commitment to environmental stewardship and their dedication to maintaining a green and sustainable community.

The Wallace Dell: A Purposefully Tranquil Setting

The award recognizes The Wallace Dell as an example of corporate sustainability on The Sharon at SouthPark’s campus. The Dell features trees saved in the construction area where the existing structure was recently expanded. The serene scene features natural areas, walking paths and a gentle babbling stream. The scene is viewable from all stories of the Weisiger Health Center and the inside dining areas and terraces on the north side of the structure. The area provides a quiet, natural experience for residents and visitors.

A Legacy of Excellence

The Wallace Dell is named in honor Mason and Nancy Wallace, former residents of The Sharon at SouthPark. Their daughter, Kay Hodges, was honored that her parents’ namesake was recognized by the City of Charlotte with the Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest Award.

“I love everything, especially the stream,” remarked Kay. “The way it was designed to flow from the wooded area makes it look so natural.” She believes her parents would love the updated Dell. “My mom and dad enjoyed flowers and several members of my family are horticulturists. The Sharon used native plants here – something that would please all of them. I hope everyone at The Sharon enjoys it for a long time to come.”

Part Of a Green Campus

Take a stroll through The Sharon at SouthPark’s campus, and you’ll encounter beautiful tree save areas that enhance the natural beauty of the surroundings. The Wallace Dell, with its lush foliage and tranquil ambiance, exemplifies The Sharon at SouthPark’s dedication to preserving green spaces within the community.

Gratitude and Commitment

“We are deeply honored to receive the Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest award,” says Milton McGowian, chief operating officer, who nominated The Sharon at SouthPark for the award. “Our residents cherish the connection to nature, and we remain committed to maintaining a sustainable environment for our residents, families and staff to enjoy.”

The Sharon at SouthPark’s recognition as the Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest is a testament to their unwavering commitment to both residents and the environment. We are privileged to be included in the 2024 Crown Tree Awards and to add this to our list of honors.
